The Light of Life is Love

God is all there is. God creates all things. God creates everything perfect. God creates life out of light with love according to law. God created... and creates all men and women. God gives each child conceived by the natural union of a man and women a Soul.

The Soul is perfect... the Christ. All men and women created by God's law with a Soul are the Christ. At the "end of time... many will come forward claiming to be the Christ"... because they have finally cut through the multiple layers of ignorance to realize that they are the Christ.

This realization, "that all men and women are the Christ" will change the world
and "the second coming of Christ" will be fulfilled. I expect Jesus will come to greet us and rejoice in our freedom from the bondage of the worlds illusions.

Man is a co-creater with God. It was and is man that corrupted God's laws and created the dark illusion that we live in today. Man, perfect, separated himself from God and began to create an illusion of duality. In this dark illusion God's gift of eternal life ends in death of the physical body. There is no death in perfection only in illusion.

Men (and women) sold on the illusions of the world view each want to be bigger, smarter, richer, more powerful and have more possessions create a hell for themselves... for there is no life or love in the things they seek. Without the foundation of love, life, light and law there can be no true happiness.

It is our job to reach out a helping hand to those who fell for the illusion... they are our brothers and sisters... they are ourselves. Raise them up gently... a few words here, and there... a helping hand when needed... and a smile and blessing of kindness. Help quietly.

Dear God, please forgive us for our illusions... and grant us the return to the perfect home you created for us... Heaven on Earth. Your will be done. Amen.

I am on the path. I am the Christ... I am one with God. For God is all there is.

Lightbearers...

As part of the Divine Plan, lightbearers have returned to earth to accomplish a mission... many lightbearers suffer greatly during childhood... often choose families where they suffer psychological or physical abuse, for childhood is like boot camp for the lightbearer.

They often do not fit in with their families and indeed some do not even physically resemble their biological parents. Within the family, they stand out as different or even black sheep.

They may also suffer in normal educational institutions because they tend not to conform to the normal rites of growing up. Being tried and true matured souls, they often do not see the need to be part of the silliness that pervades secondary education.

Their fellow classmates often consider them social outcasts and as a result they suffer from loneliness. However, they are likely to excel academically.

Their inner strength sustains them through the painful growing-up period, and many begin to find inner and professional strength once they are independent from their families.

Many lightbearers will reject traditional religions early on because they have already surpassed the limitations of dogma... Others opt for working within established traditional religions as reformers, rebels or innovators. However, many choose to remain spiritually neutral and unaffiliated with traditional religious movements.

As many reach the zenith of their professional careers, their spiritual yearnings become more and more intense. Some leave their posts while others struggle to maintain interest in their jobs and still answer the spiritual yearnings within.

A search begins. They begin to look for answers in the other dimensions, consulting astrologers, psychics, and mediums; poring through books on near-death experiences; or visiting the many spiritually oriented websites on the Internet.

Some questions are answered, but inevitably they are left with more questions than answers. The Sanctus Germanus Prophecies Volume 2

[I do not know if I am a lightbearer per se... but what is related above happened to me. Pete]

Yesterday, Saturday October 13th, something was going on in the unseen because our three dogs wanted to be right up against me all day.

Today 10-14-07 up at 5:15 AM... dogs acting normal. Fixing morning tea.
Feeling pretty rough. Grumpy. Unusual for me... most of the time I am up.
Aah! Hot herb tea... this will make my morning right.

Working on the November page... Ascension. According to Karen Bishop who writes on, "ascension symptoms" many people (especially lightworkers) are experiencing a lot of ups and downs, aches and pains and minor fits of insanity at this time.

This is caused by new and higher energies entering their body. Karen's message is "hang tough"... it will all be worth it when we reach a new higher level of consciousness. Karen's site: http://www.whatsuponplanetearth.com/

Why UFO's and the Extraterrestrials are here...

"According to an entity called Hatonn who has spoken with our group and several others for many years, the purpose in being here of at least some of the UFOs that are seen in our skies at this time is much like the purpose that we might have in sending aid to a disaster-stricken or extremely impoverished country. It is a desire to be of service." From: The Law of One: Book I,
The RA Material
by RA a humble messenger of The Law of One.

We have been contacting people of planet Earth for many, many of your years. We have been contacting at intervals of thousands of years those who sought our aid.

It is time for many of the people of this planet to be contacted, for many now have the understanding and the desire to seek something outside the physical illusion that has for so many years involved the thinking of those of this planet.

We of the Confederation of Planets in the Service of the Infinite Creator are very sorry that we cannot step upon your soil and teach those of your people who desire our service.

But, my friends, as we have said before, this would be a very great disservice to those who do not desire our service at this time, and we are afraid we would have little effect in bringing understanding even to those who desire it, for understanding, my friends, comes from within.

We can only guide. We can only suggest. We are attempting to do this in such a way that the seeking of the individual will be stimulated to turning his thinking inward, inward to that single source of love and
understanding, the Creator, that is part of us all, part of everything that exists, for everything that exists, my friends, is the Creator. [God is all there is.]

We are very privileged to have you join with us in this great service at this time in the history of your planet. For this is a very great time, a great transitional period, in which many of the Earth's people will be raised from their state of confusion to a simple understanding: the love of their Creator.

OCTOBER 24th 2007

BECAUSE something was right and proper yesterday does not mean it is today. That is why you have to live one day at a time, and live fully in the everpresent, glorious now; for when you can do it without any reservations and preconceived ideas, you will be able to accept change without resistance and life will flow with ease and smoothness. It is much easier to say it than to do it, especially when you have felt everything was going smoothly and have sunk your roots down deep, feeling secure in your present situation. Let your security be in Me and never in a situation, a plan, a person or a thing; for what is here today may be gone tomorrow. But I AM always here through all eternity. Therefore seek Me and find Me, and fear nothing. Let the changes come, and simply know that each change will be for the very best and that each one is necessary for the growth and expansion of the whole. OPENING DOORS WITHIN BY Eileen Caddy

Got up a bit late 5:30 AM. Making morning herb tea... marshmallow and passionflower... tasty and soothing to the insides. I found the following article while surfing the net. Pretty interesting...

Dr Raymond Bernard & The Super Race Experiment
Source: The American Weekly, May 9, 1943.

Dr. Bernard’s mad dash to Jacksonville Florida to meet with Guy Harwood after receiving a manuscript copy of Guy’s book We The Geniuses is understandable after reading the Doctor’s booklet (date unknown) The New Race. Which, as the statement of purpose claimed was “Devoted to the Creation of a Superior Race through Scientific Vegetarianism, Regeneration, Colonization and Eugenics,”

Dr. Bernard, writing under his real name Dr. Walter Siegmeister begins:

“Armageddon and its Aftermath”

“ A glimpse into the future reveals the destruction of the present industrial phase of civilizations as the result of the war. Great changes occur; cities are demolished; the mass of humanity regresses to mechanized barbarism, slaves of new military dictators.

The menace of a military king of the earth becomes more or less a reality. Democracy becomes a forgotten memory. The beast that has formerly covered itself beneath a false veneer of culture and civilization now shows himself for what he is.

Revolutions and these follow the close of the war by the rule of the bloody sword; things go from bad to worst; and general chaos, destruction and destitution are the only ends in view.

Suffering reaches unprecedented limits until people start to awaken from the folly of it all, the emptiness of the civilization they gave their lives for; and gradually they start to develop a hatred and horror of it; they run away from it, they return to nature, to the life of primitive man; here they find the peace, security, health and happiness which civilization never gave.

Those who remain in civilization suffer and groan in a state of worse slavery than history has ever seen; and those who were wise enough to save themselves by returning to nature alone possess the potentialities of saving the race from complete degradation, and developing the beginning of a better race.”

After giving us this warning, the good Doctor writes that there is hope:

“ The New Race”

“A new race is being born! A New Hope for humanity is dawning on a world darkened by the horrors of war and by the reversion of a large part of civilized humanity to a new form of mechanized barbarism.

As an old race is rapidly degenerating and heading towards destruction, the beneficent hand of Nature comes to humanity’s assistance by creating a new mutation of the human species in the form of pioneers of a new and better race.

The same has occurred in past historical epochs, when older civilizations tottered, and their races degenerated — while new pioneers arose to create a better future in their midst, to usher into existence a New Race, to arise from the American people, and a New Civilization, to have it’s home on the American continents.”

Dr. Bernard next lists the “leading tracts of these new pioneers.”

“ First, they are humanitarians; they live to serve humanity, and not for the selfish quest for riches, fame or pleasure. “Secondly, they posses a highly developed sense of conscience and intuition, which differentiates them from those who are merely intellectual. This leads them to consider all life as sacred, animal as well as human, and to regain the taking of life, for any reason, with horror.

Hence they are vegetarians and are peace-lovers to the extent that they would rather give up their lives than take the life of another; nor can the act of murder, in their eyes, ever be justified, whether committed by men or by nations.

The new race individual has more refined ideas of love, a higher concentration of women and a chaste and more wholesome attitude towards sex.

Finally, the new race pioneer despises this industrial civilization which lives by war; it’s inhuman factories and ugly cities, and desires to live close to All- Mother-Nature, in obedience to her laws, in peaceful and productive Garden Communities.”

“The Founding of a New Race Colony”

“ It is imperative that these forerunners of a better race be gathered together and established in colonies if they are to be saved from being swept away by the rising tide of destruction which is now engulfing civilization and its inhabitants.

It is towards this goal that the writer is working. The pioneers of the New Race must first be organized into a society, and later brought to a new land where they may eventually fulfill their destiny of creating a superior humanity.

“Civilization is indeed like a sinking ship; and unless a minority are carried off on a life-boat, gradually developing a better race, there will be no hope for humanity. We need today a New Ark and a new Noah, to save the worthy ones from drowning with the rest, and from them to found a New Race.

We realize that it is impossible to put all of present humanity into an Ark, for the majority, like those in Noah’s day, will be deaf to such an appeal, for they live only in today and cannot look ahead to tomorrow.

But there are certain individuals here and there who will listen and respond to such a call; they will be saved from destruction by migrating to a New Land where they will establish colonies which will be Cradles of a New Race. It is to such pioneers that this message is addressed.”

Seigmeister’s 23 page booklet then puts down his plans whereas selected persons can “regenerate” themselves following the strict and stringent directions of the Doctor as regards to diet, sexual abstention and meditation.

Under the heading “Admission to Our Colony” he writes:

“ Every person who joins our movement must consider themselves as potential creators of the New Race, and must either prepare themselves for eventual parenthood of New Race children, or resolve to devote their lives to help in some way the furtherance of the goal of bringing into the world super-children. This must be our religion, and we must be willing to sacrifice for its realization…

“It is not that we are trying to save present humanity by bringing large numbers of people out of civilization and to establish colonies, but our work rather is to gather to our new eugenic religious idea of creating a new messiah to save humanity from degradation and reversion to barbarism, and in about 30 or 40 years the world shall have it’s new teacher…”

As for where the colony was to be located the Scientist wrote:

“ The exact location of our colony will be kept secret. This is for many reasons. First we do not desire mere curiosity-seekers to infringe on our privacy. We do not desire persons who may misunderstand our teachings, or who have no serious intention to apply them, to come and be troublemakers.

We admit that there are many good people who do not desire to make the required sacrifices needed to achieve the goal towards which we are working (yet which are really not “sacrifices,” since after one has tried the new regenerative way of living, one will never want to return to the old way).”

The Doctor had a plan. Of course, as any well trained scientist will do, Bernard needed to run a small test case.

Dr. Siegmeister was the “holder of three degrees from Columbia and New York Universities, and known for his research in eugenics, biochemistry and endocrinology.” http://www.thehollowearthinsider.com/news/wmview.php?ArtID=24

I would like to pay tribute again to this man that gave us one of the most important books that I have ever read, THE ESSENE GOSPEL OF PEACE,
BOOK I.

"For I tell you truly, evils and dangers innumerable lie in wait for the Sons of Men. Beelzebub, the prince of all devils, the source of every evil, lies in wait in the body of all the Sons of Men.
He is death, the lord of every plague, and taking upon him a pleasing raiment, he tempts and entices the Sons of Men.

Riches does he promise, and power, and splendid palaces, and garments of gold and silver, and a multitude of servants, all these; he promises renown and glory, fornication and lustfulness, gluttony and wine-bibbing, riotous living, and slothfulness and idle days. And he entices every one by that to which their heart is most inclined.

And in the day that the Sons of Men have already become the slaves of all these vanities and abominations, then in payment thereof he snatches from the Sons of Men all those things which the Earthly Mother gave them so abundantly.

He takes from them their breath, their blood, their bone, their flesh, their bowels, their eyes and their ears. And the breath of the Son of Man becomes short and stifled, full of pain and evil-smelling, like the breath of unclean beasts.

And his blood becomes thick and evil-smelling, like the water of the swamps; it clots and blackens, like the night of death. And his bone becomes hard and knotted; it melts away within and breaks asunder, as a stone falling down upon a rock. And his flesh waxes fat and watery; it rots and putrefies, with scabs and boils that are an abomination. [A true prophet's blood is pure as water.]

And his bowels become full with abominable filthiness, with oozing streams of decay; and multitudes of abominable worms have their habitation there. And his eyes grow dim, till dark night enshrouds them, and his ears become stopped, like the silence of the grave.

And last of all shall the erring Son of Man lose life. For he kept not the laws of his Mother, and added sin to sin. Therefore, are taken from him all the gifts of the Earthly Mother: breath, blood, bone, flesh, bowels, eyes and ears, and after all else, life, with which the Earthly Mother crowned his body.

But if the erring Son of Man- be sorry for his sins and undo them, and return again to his Earthly Mother; and if he do his Earthly Mother's laws and free himself from Satan's clutches, resisting his temptations, then does the Earthly Mother receive again her erring Son with love and sends him her angels that they may serve him.

I tell you truly, when the Son of Man resists the Satan that dwells in him and does not his will, in the same hour are found the Mother's angels there, that they may serve him with all their power and free utterly the Son of Man from the power of Satan."

"They sent out healers. And one of these was Jesus, the Essene. He walked among the sick and the troubled, and he brought them the knowledge they needed to cure themselves. Some who followed him wrote down what passed between him and those who suffered and were heavy-laden.

The Elders of the Brotherhood made poetry of the words, and made unforgettable the story of the Healer of Men, the Good Shepherd. And when the time came at last for the Brothers to leave the desert and go to another place, the scrolls stayed behind as buried sentinels, as forgotten guardians of eternal and living truth.

A dark age began, a time of savagery, of barbarism, of book-burning, of superstition and worship of empty idols. The gentle Jesus was lost forever in the image of a crucified God; the Essene brothers hid their teachings in the minds of the few who could preserve them for their descendants, and the Scrolls of Healing lay neglected beneath the shifting shadows of the desert. . ."

Biorhythm:

"Biorhythm Chart"
The Ultimate Critical Day
(Stay in bed :-)

At the beginning of the last century, Dr. Wilhelm Fliess noticed identical rhythms in the case histories of his patients. He observed active and passive phases in the physical, emotional and mental aspects of humans. From these observations he derived the principle of the biorhythms: The physical curve with its cycle of 23 days, the emotional curve with 28 days and the mental curve with 33 days.

Interpretation:
When the curve of any cycle is above the midline, we experience a "high" in the corresponding field (physical, emotional or mental). If it is the physical curve, you will feel bodily well and, for example, if you were to have an operation the body would be more resilient. If it is the emotional curve, you will be in a good mood and your contact with other people will be positive. If it is the mental curve, your thought processes will be sharper, concentration will be easier and you may have a lot of ideas and insights.

When the curve of any cycle is below the midline, we experience a "low" in the corresponding field. If it is a physical low, you may feel weak and listless; if it is an emotional low, you may feel miserable and out of sorts; if it is a mental low, thinking can be foggy and concentration hard.

When any of the curves crosses the midline, this is a critical time in the corresponding field and if two curves cross the midline at the same point, this is a very critical time. Critical in the physical field means you may feel exhausted and it is better to avoid physical effort and operations. Critical in the emotional field means you may feel irritable and sad, and emotional outbreaks are likely so it is better to avoid conflicts and arguments. Critical in the mental field finally means sluggish thinking and it is better to postpone activities that demand a lot of concentration.

Average (the yellow bar) is the average of the three levels "physical", "emotional" and "intellectual". It's level can be used to interpret your general well-being or state of health .

Biorhythms can't predict or explain events, they can only suggest how we may deal with them. For example, some doctors plan operations around them or sports coaches use them in their individual training programs. But it is up to you whether you believe in them or not.

Note: The use of the biorhythm chart has been studied for many years. The Japanese have used it to help keep down accidents in the work place. Critical jobs require the employee to stay home if two of the factors are crossing the center line at the same time.

Check your biorhythms for today:

Many Americans Can't Afford to Eat Right

By
Amanda Gardner

HealthDay Reporter

THURSDAY, Nov. 22 (HealthDay News) — In this land and season of plenty, low-income and rural Americans continue to have difficulty finding healthy foods that are affordable, a new study finds.

One study shows that low-income Americans now would have to spend up to 70 percent of their food budget on fruits and vegetables to meet new national dietary guidelines for healthy eating.

And a second study found that in rural areas, convenience stores far outnumber supermarkets and grocery stores — even though the latter carry a much wider choice of affordable, healthy foods.

Both studies appear in the November issue of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, a themed issue on poverty and human development.

New dietary guidelines recommend that Americans eat nine servings of fruits and vegetables a day, up from five servings in the previous guidelines.

Despite clear evidence that eating your vegetables can ward off heart disease, diabetes and cancer, only 40 percent of Americans meet the old guidelines and less than 10 percent meet the new guidelines, according to one 2006 study.

People with more money eat more fruits and vegetables than those with less money, research shows. In turn, poorer people also assume a greater disease burden relative to their wealthier counterparts.

They are throwing away billions of dollars on unwinable wars in the Middle-East... while some of our old folks are eating dog food... unthinkable! And some of the returning veterans which are mentally wounded are scrounging in dumpsters for food and sleeping in parks.

My wife, Juanita, works with these wounded veterans on the mental health ward of the local VA hospital. She tells me... "it's very sad, it breaks my heart."

Veterans and Homelessness

It's not just a stereotype—many of America's homeless are former soldiers. "Veterans, who represent only 11% of the civilian adult population, comprise 26% of the homeless population," says a new report by the Homelessness Research Institute. Close to half a million veterans found themselves on the streets or in shelters and transitional housing in 2006.

Why it MATTERS A major goal is preventing homelessness among soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan now. The report calls for screening to find out which soldiers are at risk right after leaving the military and emergency grants for those who fall behind on their rent.

We live in a throw-away culture. We are throwing away the minds and bodies of our young service people on meaningless warfare and then dumping them on the street to fend for themselves. [May God forgive us... and my anger.]

God is all there is. God is Love. Love is all there is. Love is One. Love is a continuum. War is at the dark end of the continuum of love. War is a last ditch learning device for man... to teach him the horror of killing himself... for all men are one being.

From The OAHSPE BIBLE
(Large Green Edition)

p.13
BOOK OF JEHOVIH.

Jehovih said:
9. This also have I created possible unto My creations; for both angels and mortals shall learn to know the elements of the heavens and the earth, and to know the trials of love and misfortune.
10. Nor have I made wisdom possible unto any man or angel that knoweth not My elements, and the extremes of evil and good which I created.

[God creates what man desires and prays for and thinks he needs... whether for good or for evil.]

p.3
THE VOICE OF MAN

9. I took up arms against my brother. With great armies I encompassed him about to despoil him.
10. His widows and orphans I multiplied by the stroke of my sword; the cry of anguish that came out of their mouths I answered by the destruction of my brother's harvests.

11. To my captains and generals who showed great skill in killing, 1 built monuments in stone and iron. Yea, I inscribed them from top to bottom with their bloody victories.
12. And in my vanity I called out to the young, saying: Behold the glory of great men! These great monuments I have built to them!
13. And the youth of my household were whetted with ambition for spoil. The example of my hand made them train themselves for warfare.
14. To my colonels and generals I gave badges of gold. I called to the damsels, saying: Come, a great honor 1 give to you; ye shall dance with the officers of death !
15. And they tripped up on tip-toe, elated by the honey of my words! 0 Jehovih, how have I not covered up my wickedness; how have I failed to make the flow of my brother's blood the relish of satan !
16. To my destroying hosts I have given great honor and glory. In the pretence of enforcing peace I hewed my way in flesh and blood.
17. I made great pretensions in a kingdom. I called out to my people, saying: We must have a kingdom. I showed them no reason for it; but I bade them take up arms and follow me for patriotism's sake. And yet what was patriotism? Behold, I made it as a something greater than Thee and Thy commandment: THOU SHALT NOT KILL.
18. Yea, by the cunning of my words, I taught them my brother was my enemy; that to fall upon him and his people and destroy them was great patriotism.
19. And they ran at the sound of my voice, for my glory in the greatness of my kingdom, and they committed great havoc.
20. Yea, I built colleges for training my young men in warfare. I drew a boundary hither and thither, saying: This is my kingdom! All others are my enemies!
21. I flattered the young men with the work of death; I said: Ye men of war! Great shall be your glory !
22. And their judgment was turned away from peace; I made them think that righteousness was to stand up for me and my country, and to destroy my brother and his people.
23. They built me forts and castles and arsenals without number. I called unto my people, saying: Come, behold the glory of my defenses which I built for you!
24. And they gave me money and garrisons, and ships of war, and torpedoes, shouting: Hurrah for our kingdom! We have faith in these things, more than in Thee, our Creator!
25. Thus I led them away from Thee. Their eyes I turned down in the way of death. By the might of my armies, I put away righteousness.
26. I covered the earth over with drunkards, and widows and orphans; to beggary I reduced them, but I whetted their pride by saying: Behold what great standing armies we have!
27. To the man that said: There shall come a time of peace, when war shall be no more forever, I mocked and said: Thou fool!
28. I know the counts against me, 0 Father. I cannot hide my iniquity from Thy sight. I have said war was a necessary evil to prevent a too populous world! I turned my back toward the wide, unsettled regions of the earth. With this falsehood in my mouth I stood up before Thee! Yea, I cried out as if for the righteous, saying: I war for righteousness, and for the protection of the weak! In the destruction of my brethren I stood as a murderer, pleading this excuse. Stubbornly I persisted in not seeing justice on the other side, whilst I cut down whom Thou hadst created alive. Above the works of Thy hand I raised myself up as a pruning knife in Thy vineyard.
29. Yea, more than this, I persuaded my sons and daughters that to war for me was to war for our Father in heaven. By such blasphemy led I them into ruin. And when the battle was over for a day I cried out: Behold the glory of them that were slain for the honor of their country! Thus have I added crime to crime before Thee, Jehovih; thus destroyed Thy beautiful creation. Verily, have I not one word in justification of my deeds before Thee!

Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone?
Girls have picked them every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young girls gone?
Taken husbands every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young men gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young men gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young men gone?
Gone for soldiers every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Covered with flowers every one
When will we ever learn?
When will we ever learn?

How to Be Honest

It's been said that honesty is the best policy. It sounds like the simplest thing in the world, but being truly honest, with others and with yourself, can be a real challenge. Political correctness, being sensitive of other people's feelings, and facing uncomfortable truths about yourself can take lots of thought and work.

STEPS:

1. Understand the workings of dishonesty. Most of us learned to be dishonest as children, when we realized that saying certain things (and not saying certain things) would garner approval and praise, or the opposite.

Along the way, we can lose track of where to draw the line and how dishonesty can negatively affect our lives (see Warnings below). Dishonesty often becomes a tool used to:

pretend nothing is wrong

shift the blame to others

avoid embarrassment

distract ourselves

minimize conflict

avoid responsibility or work

2. "Fess up." Be willing to address issues where you have been less than honest in the past, whether you took a cookie and then denied it, or blatantly lied about whose fault an automobile accident was.

While reviewing your past transgressions can create discomfort and guilt, recognizing where you have been dishonest in the past can help you identify patterns and stop them from continuing.

If you feel guilty for having been dishonest in the past, apologize to the person you lied to and/or find a creative way to make things right. For example, if you kept money that you knew wasn't yours and didn't make a good faith effort to return it to its owner, make an equivalent or greater donation to charity.

If you've lied to a person who plays an important role in your life (a significant other, relative, or friend) the best (but most difficult) thing to do is come clean.

List the areas where you may have a weakness. It may be as simple as a tendency to make up excuses for failures, or as complicated as a penchant for stealing. Remember that dishonesty is rooted in fear, so you must look for and face those fears.

By listing areas where you have a problem, and then working to deal with them, you can consciously battle these habits. If you find yourself lying because you fear disapproval from someone, for example, perhaps you need to learn how to stop being a people pleaser and be yourself.

Most importantly, admit your errors so that you can forgive yourself and use those experiences to reinforce your determination to do better. You can't fix what you don't acknowledge as a problem.

3.Think honestly. This may sound silly, but if you don't think honestly, you won't BE honest. Prejudices and preconceived ideas can make it difficult to distinguish what the truth really is.

Don't take things at face value.

When you read, see, or hear something, don't make assumptions. Offer the benefit of the doubt, and be skeptical if necessary. When you make a commitment to communicating and understanding the truth, it can be humbling to realize that most of what we think we know is actually just based on assumptions rather than facts.

Keep in mind a Jewish proverb: "What you don't see with your eyes, don't witness with your mouth."

4. Practice being honest on the simple things. This is especially important in situations where "coloring" the facts would make no difference in the world, which covers a good bit of life (from speaking the truth, to avoiding simple thoughtless acts like picking up someone's pencil or grabbing an apple off the neighbor's tree to snack on without thinking about it).

Abraham Lincoln became famous for going to great lengths to return a few cents that did not belong to him, hence the nickname "Honest Abe". By applying honesty to the little things, you will get in the habit of being honest in general.

5. Exercise tact. We all know that being literally honest can hurt feelings and turn friendships sour. It can also be misinterpreted as criticism or a lack of support. It's very tempting to tell a "white lie" when dealing with sensitive loved ones (especially children), but you can still be honest by being creative in how you express the truth.

Emphasize the positive. Shift the focus away from what, in all honesty, you think is negative. Instead of saying "No, I don't think you look good in those pants" say "They're not as flattering as the black dress--that dress really looks amazing on you. Have you tried it on with those stockings you wore to my cousin's wedding last year?"

Be vague. When asked a direct question (especially by children) and you know that your honest answer will make the situation worse, be as general as possible, and try to change the subject as soon as you can.

If asked whether Santa Claus is real, for example, say "I've never met him myself, but just because we don't see something with our own eyes doesn't mean it can't be real. You don't see air, but you breathe it all the time, right?" Or, turn the question around: "Why do you ask?"

You have the right to remain silent. If you're pushed into a corner and don't know how to respond, say "Can we talk about this another time?" or "I really don't feel comfortable talking about this. You should really address this with..."

Don't say "I don't know" if you really do know — it can come back to bite you in the rear later on. The person might catch on and realize that you know something, and they might get pushy. Repeat yourself and leave the conversation as quickly as possible.

When all else fails, be honest — but gently. Wrap the potentially hurtful truth in appreciation, praise, and, if applicable, affection.

6. Find a balance between full disclosure and privacy. Just because you're honest doesn't mean you have to air out all of your (or anybody else's) business. There are some things that we don't talk about because it's not information that the person asking may be entitled to.

On the other hand, withholding information that you know should be disclosed is lying by omission. For instance, not telling a romantic partner that you have a child or that you've been married in the past, for example, is objectionable by most. Deciding what information a person should or should not know is a personal decision.

Just because you believe a person is better off not knowing something doesn't mean you're acting in their best interest by hiding that information. Follow your gut, and put yourself in that person's position: "If I was in their shoes, would I rightfully feel betrayed if this information wasn't shared with me at an appropriate time?"

7. Remember that being honest isn't easy. At its core, being honest is difficult because it makes us vulnerable. It shows people who we really are and that we make mistakes, which gives them a chance to criticize and reject in a more hurtful way than if we'd hidden the truth or lied to begin with.

And sometimes, the truth just hurts. But, honesty develops character, as well as credibility and trust, all of which are the building blocks of high self-esteem and healthy relationships.

Being honest isn't a goal that you check off a list — it's an ongoing process that will both challenge and benefit you throughout your life. Nothing is as liberating as having nothing to hide.

TIPS:

A. Making promises or guarantees that you don't have the full intention of keeping is also dishonest.

B. For most people, keeping secrets intended to benefit someone is not considered dishonest, as long as you're confident that the person you're keeping the secret from will completely understand when they find out.

Still, it's a fuzzy line determining which secrets are dishonest — keeping a surprise birthday party under wraps is one thing; not telling a child that they are adopted or that their pet has died is trickier, and will require a personal sorting of ethics.

C. We make judgments, assumptions and theories every day, but in order to be honest, it's important them to acknowledge them as what they are — ideas about what the truth might be, not the hard truth itself.

When you make a statement, try to add the phrase "In my experience..." or "Personally, I've observed that..." at the beginning, or end it with "...but that's just my observation/experience, that might not be how things are everywhere". For example: "In my experience, people who have physically demanding jobs tend to be more fit than those in office jobs, but that's just my own observation.

That might not be how things are everywhere." It lets people know that you are making an observation that is limited to your situation, instead of making a blanket statement (i.e. stereotype or generalization) that isn't true.

D. Keep these words of wisdom in mind:

"Never do something you will have to lie about later. If you have to lie about it, you shouldn’t be doing it."

"Son, always tell the truth. Then you'll never have to remember what you said the last time." Sam Rayburn (1882 - 1961), quoted Washingtonian, November 1978

"A half truth is a whole lie." Yiddish Proverb

"Truth fears no questions." Unknown

"The cruelest lies are often told in silence." Adlai Stevenson

"Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive" Sir Walter Scott

WARNINGS:

A. Be wary when someone tells you something in confidence and you know, in your gut, that you feel obliged to share that information with someone else. This puts you in a difficult position, especially when the truth eventually comes out and the person affected by it finds out you knew all along.

If someone starts off a sentence with "Don't tell so-and-so about this, okay?" be prepared to offer your own disclaimer: "If it's something that I'd want to know about if I was in their shoes, please don't tell me. I'm terrible at keeping secrets."

B. Be conscious of groups of peers or friends who may sway you to "stray" from your choice to stay on the "straight and narrow". Like any bad habit, you may be pressured to regress if you choose to hang around people who don't have integrity and cherish honesty.

You don't have to automatically find new, more truthful friends, but be aware of your vulnerability to temptation if you continue associations with overtly dishonest people.

C. Dishonesty has many negative consequences. They are often not immediate or noticeable; they usually build up over time until they hit us like a brick wall, at which point it may be difficult to see how dishonesty has played a role in unhappiness:

Becoming numb to our own feelings if we hide them for a long enough time

Becoming deeply confused about what we actually want

Making a bad situation worse

Not being prepared to face the consequences of our decisions and the reality
of our situation, thus getting more hurt by it in the end

Being haunted by guilt, and fear that your dishonesty will be discovered

An emotional state that can be best described as a "heavy heart"

D. If you find that you cannot control your lying, there may be emotional issues at work that are beyond the scope of this article. Consider meeting with a counselor or other professional who can help you work through those issues over the long term. It may be that dishonesty is a habit that you've set for your entire life, and it will take a good deal of introspection and work to unravel that pattern.

THINGS YOU'LL NEED:

A clear and concise understanding of what honesty means.

Willingness and patience to change yourself.
